Carmona was previously a settlement known as Latag, which was annexed towards the town of Silang on the latter's generation in 1595. The origins of its title are unidentified. In 1856, the settlement's inhabitants demanded the conversion of Latag right into a city, spearheaded by Tiburcio Purificacion.
