Carmona was previously a settlement identified as Latag, which was annexed towards the town of Silang upon the latter's creation in 1595. The origins of its name are unknown. In 1856, the settlement's inhabitants demanded the conversion of Latag right into a city, spearheaded by Tiburcio Purificacion.
